Canine predators are becoming a growing menace in one of eastern Iowa’s biggest cities. Davenport residents say more and more coyotes are coming into the city limits. They are feeding on small rodents and animal food that is left outside. But some Davenport residents say their animals, including horses, goats and dogs, also are being attacked – and they fear for their children’s safety.

KWQC-TV reports that Davenport aldermen may be taking action in the near future. Alderman Bill Edmond says the city has gone to the DNR and received its blessing for a city-sponsored coyote hunt. He says it’s been suggested the coyote hunt be combined with an urban deer hunt so anyone with an urban deer hunt permit can also shoot coyotes.
