UNI coach Mark Farley says he will continue with a two quarterback system when the Panthers host South Dakota State this weekend. Sawyer Kollmorgen and Brion Carnes split time in a victory at South Dakota. “I think it made each player better by keeping each player fresh,” Farley says.
Both quarterbacks played the same amount last week and he says each week will unfold differently, depending on whether one gets a hot hand.
Farley says he went with both quarterbacks to try and jump start the offense. “I still think we need more production on offense, but we had to do something to jump start that,” Farley says. He says the defense has to call things differently based on which quarterback is in the game and then the offense has to adjust to what they do.
South Dakota State is 4-2 and ranked 18th in the latest Sport Network FCS poll. Farley says they run the ball well and have a junior college quarterback that does a good job. Farley says the Panthers need to limit the big plays from South Dakota State running back Zach Zenner who has already rushed for 938 yards this season.
He says it is only a matter of time until all Missouri Valley football game will utilize instate replay. Currently, replay is available only in games at the UNI-Dome, North Dakota State and games carried by the Valley television network. “Somebody had to start it so it could become a part of the whole league…we started the process and that’s what’s important,” Farley says.
UNI is 3-3 and ranked 20th in FCS.
