The UNI Panthers are in a different position after snapping the nation’s longest wining streak at 33-games with a 23-3 victory over top ranked and 3-time defending national champion North Dakota State.
“That’s a great win, just a great team win. That’s the only way you can beat a team like that, just play 4 quarters,” Panther coach Mark Farley says. “It puts us in a position to raise the stakes again this week and to go on to next week to Southern Illinois. This football team got better this week and it keeps getting better as the season goes on.”
Farley does not feel the Panthers will have any trouble getting ready for this weeks game at Southern Illinois. He says the team will enjoy the big win and they have to not worry about where they stand, and now they need to be able to move onto the next game.
The students even rushed the field at the end of the game to celebrate. Farley says getting the students involved is the reason you go to college to play football.
Waterloo native and former UNI assistant Chris Klieman suffered his first loss at Bison coach. He says they had uncharacteristic turnovers and had some problems on special teams, but he says they will learn from it and move forward.
