A 49-year-old caught when an accomplice showed up at his house with 333 grams of crystal meth has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

On November 14 of last year investigators caught a man pulling up to the home outside of North Liberty where Terry Joe Burns lived. Authorities not only found a what was described as “highly pure ice methamphetamine,” there was over $9,000 in cash in the car. Prosecutors say the guy in the car — Donald Engstrom — had arranged to meet at Burns house to sell another man half a pound of meth.

Engstrom, the guy with the meth in his car, pled guilty and has been sentenced to serve 10 years in prison. Burns — the guy who owned the home where the drug deal was to take place — has been sentenced to 15 years in a federal prison for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. Authorities say Burns was distributing “ice” methamphetamine in the North Liberty area for six months before he was caught.
