NWS radar shows rain that’s expected to turn to snow.
The rain that’s been falling across much of the state today is expected to change to a wintry mix tonight and then snow overnight. National Weather Service Meteorologist Ken Podrazik says 2 to 3 inches may fall over northern Iowa, with lesser amounts to the south.
“Really, the accumulating snow will be after midnight and generally, we’re looking at some accumulations around Mason City, down southwest through Fort Dodge, into Carroll and Denison,” Podrazik said.
Some roadways could become slick as temperatures dip below freezing. Slightly stronger winds should blow into the state as well. This light snow event is expected to leave the state by Wednesday.
The forecast for Christmas day calls for dry conditions with highs in the 30s to low 40s. Another chance for rain and snow comes late in the week.
“We’re monitoring a storm for late Christmas day into Friday, with some potential snow accumulations,” Podrazik said. “Right now, it looks like it’s pegging for northern Iowa and into Minnesota at this time.”
