Crisis counselors are at Green Mountain Garwin High School in central Iowa after a student was found dead of apparent suicide at the school this morning. GMG Superintendent Ben Petty says the student may have gotten into the building during an open gym session at the school building and took his life.

The Tama County Sheriff’s Department is conducting an investigation. Superintendent Petty says students were kept in school and an assembly was held at the start of school day. Counselors and clergy were brought in to help students. The high school has a population of 250 students.
