Police-lightsWaterloo Police are investigating several reports of gunfire in the city. There have been at least three shootings this week and no one has been arrested.

Late Wednesday afternoon, a shooting occurred in a neighborhood north of downtown Waterloo. Police Captain Dave Mohlis says residents in the area reported hearing gunshots and seeing two people, one armed with a handgun, running from the area.

No one was injured, but two homes were struck by bullets. “At this point, it doesn’t look like the houses themselves were the target,” Mohlis said. “It was probably more that the houses were struck as a result of what was going on in the street.”

Another shooting was reported Wednesday night just south of downtown Waterloo, where three people were spotted fleeing from an alley. “It was reported there were between three and five shots fired,” Mohlis said.

The gunfire in Waterloo on Wednesday follows a shooting Tuesday night that injured two people inside a home on the north side of the city. It’s unclear if the incidents are related. “At this point, we don’t have any connection between the cases. We’re still trying to determine who the people with the guns doing the shooting are,” Mohlis said.

Anyone with information about the shootings is asked to call Waterloo Police at 319-291-4340 or Cedar Valley Crime Stoppers at 855-300-TIPS (8477).
