Iowa and Iowa State unveiled their football recruiting classes on Wednesday.
The Hawkeyes signed a class of 21 players including two quarterbacks: Ryan Boyle from Dowling Catholic and Drew Cook from Iowa City Regina. “We feel good about both of them, in a perfect world you don’t want two in the same class, but they were both players we felt so highly of that we were determined to get both of them,” Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz.
There are nine Iowans in the class, and Ferentz says a perfect world would have all the players coming from Iowa, but he says that’s not realistic with the state’s population. Ferentz hopes the Hawkeyes are good enough that the incoming freshmen won’t be counted on next season.

That is not the case at Iowa State where following a winless Big 12 season and massive player defections the Cyclones need immediate help. Six junior college transfers are part of the class. “It’s a day that you want to start without any negative news, and we were able to sail through that, everybody that we were expected to sign, we did sign,” Cyclone Paul Rhoads says. He calls it a balanced class with 11 on offense and 11 on defense, and 12 high school players to build the future, and junior college players that they expect to make and immediate impact.
Rhoads says they will press the junior college players to get into the action immediately.
