The Iowa Hawkeyes raced out to a big early lead and rolled to an 81-47 win over Rutgers in Iowa City. Iowa coach Fran McCaffery was able to go deep into his bench as the Hawks improve to 7-6 in the Big Ten.

McCaffery says the Hawks did not let up after a fast start. “We got it to 18, you don’t want it to go from 18 to 9, you want it to go from 18 to 22, 24, 26, so that’s what we did. I’m proud of my guys for understanding that,” McCaffery says.

The next game is a Sunday visit to Nebraska. McCaffery says the Huskers will play tough defense and it will be a great atmosphere with a hard-fought game.

Jarod Uthoff led Iowa with 14 points and Aaron White added 13.
