Fire-truckAuthorities say crews spent several hours Wednesday on a farm operated by Governor Terry Branstad’s family moving burning bales of cornstalks away from buildings.

Forest City Fire Chief Mark Johnson says there were several hundred round bales of stalks that were found burning between two buildings on Branstad Farms on Wednesday morning. Firefighters let the bales burn out.

There were no injuries reported and none of the buildings were damaged. Johnson says they aren’t sure what caused the fire but Wednesday’s high winds may have reignited a trash fire from earlier in the week. The farm is operated by Governor Branstad’s brother Monte and his sons and is located about four miles north of Forest City.
