A northwest Iowa man has died after being ejected from his car in an accident north of Sheldon. The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 3:50 am on Saturday, April 4th, 20-year-old Raymond Wood of Sheldon was driving a 1997 Volkswagen Golf northbound on Highway 60, north of Sheldon.

The report says that Wood appeared to have fallen asleep or just went off the roadway, then went through the intersection of 270th Street and Highway 60 and then back off the roadway in the grass median. According to the report the Volkswagen then rolled what appeared to be multiple times and ended up back on the northbound lanes, where it came to rest on the opposite side of the roadway. Wood was lying in the middle of Highway 60 and had been totally ejected. He was flown to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, where he later died.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that alcohol appeared to be a factor in the accident.
