Ambulance-Back-DoorA north-central Iowa man is dead after falling from a water tower in southwest Illinois.

Clinton County Coroner Phillip Moss says 31-year-old Dustin Spillman of Ventura was part of a three-man crew hired to paint the 100-foot-high water tower in the town of Damiansville, which is about 40 miles east of St. Louis.

Moss says authorities were notified of the fall shortly after 1:50 Monday afternoon and it wasn’t clear what caused Spillman to fall or whether he was wearing his safety harness at the time.

Spillman was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital about a half hour later. An autopsy was scheduled to be performed today on Spillman, while investigators with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will also be in Damiansville to meet with representatives from Central Tank Coating based in the northeast Iowa town of Elgin.
