Food-DriveLetter carriers with the U.S. Postal Service are asking Iowans for their help in feeding the needy tomorrow with the annual Stamp Out Hunger program. Mark Drusch is a letter carrier in Webster City who will be one of hundreds in Iowa helping to stock food banks in their communities.

Drusch says, “We are asking people to collect and bag their non-perishable food items and leave them at their mailbox for us to pick up on Saturday morning.” This is the 23rd year for the effort and Drusch says it’s had a tremendous, far-reaching impact.

“Nationally, we’ve collected almost 73 million pounds of food which in the 23 years of the food drive, we’ve collected over a billion pounds of food,” he says. “It’s the biggest, one-day food drive in the country.” Donors should not put out items in glass. They can also drop off food items at participating post offices on Saturday. Learn more at: www.nalc.org/food.
