Wartburg and Coe are both headed to the NCAA division three baseball tournament. Wartburg won the Iowa Conference regular season title and will host a regional in Waterloo’s Riverfront Stadium.

Coach Joel Holst’s team received an at-large bid into the field after finishing as the runner up at the conference tournament. He says they are excited about getting one of the 14 at-large bids and hope to play a little better than they did during the conference tournament.

It will be the first time the Knights have been at home for a regional. “We’ve had a lot of teams in Illinois and Wisconsin that have done that related to the central region and we just felt like it was time for Wartburg to go ahead and host,” Holst says. He says it’s a lot of work to host, but the players get to sleep in their own beds and it is easier for fans to get to the games.

Wartburg opens Wednesday night against Anderson of Indiana. Other teams in the field are Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Greenville, Webster and Carthage. Iowa Conference tournament champion Coe will travel to a regional in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The Kohawks will take on Saint Johns of Minnesota in the opening round on Wednesday.
