An eastern Iowa man who set several mobile homes on fire while cooking meth will spend two decades in prison. Twenty-seven-year-old Michael Lala of Hiawatha pled guilty in January to attempting to manufacture meth. Lala admitted he recruited others to purchase medicine containing pseudoephedrine so he could use it to make the meth.

He also admitted that in November of 2013 he was making meth in a bottle in his mobile home, and the bottle tipped over and caught the home on fire. The fire destroyed his mobile home and spread to five others — causing extensive damage. There were people in three of the other mobile homes when they caught fire.

Lala was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison where there is not parole.
