Adventureland in Altoona plans to add “The Monster” roller coaster.
Big changes are on the way at a popular central Iowa tourist attraction. Officials at Adventureland Park in Altoona say a new, high-thrill roller coaster will open in June 2016.
According to a post on the park’s Facebook page, “The Monster” will be a 2,500-foot steel track coaster with a 133-foot vertical lift hill, five inversions, and a 101-degree first drop. To make room for The Monster, the Log Ride will be torn down.
The Log Ride is over 40 years old and officials say, while it’s still “structurally sound,” it requires “an enormous amount of upkeep and maintenance.” The Log Ride will be shut down after Labor Day weekend.
