Grace Harken
Mitchell County Fair opened Wednesday the same day a former Mitchell County Fair queen was killed when her bicycle was hit by a car near Osage. The Iowa State Patrol says 20-year-old Grace Harken of Riceville was hit by a car while traveling east at the 249 mile marker of U.S. Highway 218 shortly after 7:20 a.m.
The crash report shows a car driven by 23-year-old Courtney Johnson of Osage was also traveling eastbound on the highway when she struck Harken. Johnson was not injured in the accident, which remains under investigation. Harken was the Mitchell County Fair Queen in 2013.
