The first month of the season may hold the key for the Iowa State Cyclones. Coming off a disappointing 2-10 record in 2014 the Cyclones need a confidence boost and a quick start could produce one.

Iowa State plays UNI, Iowa and Toledo in non-conference action, three very winnable games, before opening the Big-12 race against Kansas and Texas Tech. Senior quarterback Sam Richardson says after losing to FCS foes to open the past two seasons they are taking nothing for granted.

“We’ve shot ourselves in the foot with the first game in the last two years”, said Richardson. “Winning those first few games are crucial to our season. It’s up to the coaches and the seniors to have us ready for that first game.”

Richardson says the improvements to Jack Trice Stadium will help create an even better atmosphere for the September fifth opener against the Panthers. The new north endzone will increase capacity to more than 60 thousand fans.
