Iowa State University appears on a list of the top 25 campuses for movie piracy. The Motion Picture Association of America, which is trying to keep people from downloading and sharing films without paying for them, compiled the list for a U.S. House Judiciary Committee. It counts the copyright infringement notices sent to schools since the start of the current academic year. ISU is fifteenth on the list, with 586 notices received this year.

Mike Bowman, director of security and policy for information technology services at Iowa State, says they work with students to try and educate them about copyright infringement. He says it’s a violation of both federal law and university policy.

Bowman says there’s little a school can do to prevent piracy, except to warn students that it’s against the law. The MPAA list is published in the most recent issue of the Chronicle of Higher Education.
