Route of the proposed Bakken pipeline.

The Boone County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution Wednesday opposing the permitting and construction of the Baaken oil pipeline.

The Boone County resolution identified several issues as reasons for opposing the permitting. The Board felt the $250,000 surety bond for dealing with spills was inadequate.

The board also noted that Boone County does not have the resources or personnel to deal with a pipeline spill or any other means to protect people or property.

The Supervisors also noted that a permit would allow the use of eminent domain by pipeline building Dakota Access LLC, something the board has opposed because they felt the benefit would not be a public benefit but rather a benefit for a private enterprise.
