GavelThe former senior administrator in the University of Iowa Athletic Department has filed a lawsuit against the university, the Board of Regents and the state.

Jane Meyer’s suit says U-I Athletic Director Gary Barta removed her from her duties and placed her on administrative leave one day after she gave him a memo she says detailed discriminatory actions and issues involving the treatment of her and female athletes and coaches.

The lawsuit says she was discriminated against based on wages, gender and sexual orientation. Meyer was reassigned from her position as the top-ranking woman in the Athletic Department after Barta fired her partner, and U-I Field Hockey coach Tracey Griesbaum.

The university said it reassigned Meyer because of the threat of legal action over the firing of Griesbaum, who was accused of bullying and mistreating players. Griesbaum has also filed a lawsuit against the school.
