Police car lightsA nine-hour armed stand-off in Cherokee ended peacefully late Thursday evening.

The standoff began at about 1:45 p.m. when Cherokee police got a call about a man threatening suicide. Police arrived at the residence of 51-year-old James Goslar and tried to get him to come out of the home to talk. Police saw a weapon in the house and decided to evacuate nearby homes. Other law enforcement agencies were called in to assist.

At about 11 p.m. Gosler came out of his house and was taken to the local hospital for evaluation. The Cherokee County Sheriff says Goslar was the only one in the house and had been drinking heavily. Authorities say the man had been served divorce papers and was heavily armed.
