It may not have been deliberate but the schedule makers got it right in the Great Plains Conference. Top ranked Morningside hosts fourth ranked Doane on Saturday and the winner claims the GPAC title. Both teams enter the game at 8-0 in the league race.

“You set goals for yourself and really the main goal during the regular season is winning a conference championship”, said Morningside coach Steve Ryan. “That’s really all we have talked about and we have had a great week of practice and our guys are ready to go.”

Morningside has recorded eye popping numbers on offense. The Mustangs average more than 61 points and 605 yards per game but will be challenged by a Doane defense that surrenders less than 12 points per game.

Ryan says senior quarterback Ryan Kasdorf will play after missing last week’s victory at Midland of Nebraska.

“Kasdorf sat out last week with a hand injury but he has been throwing the ball very well in practice this week and will be ready to go.”

Doane has won 13 straight games dating back to last season and the Tigers stunned then top ranked Morningside 49-48 in the final game of the season.
