GavelA former resident of eastern Iowa will spend the rest of his life in prison for producing child pornography. A federal judge on Thursday ordered 49-year-old James Faler to serve five life sentences, plus 50 more years on other charges.

Police in Louisville, Kentucky had an encounter with Faler at his apartment and arrested him after learning he was a registered sex offender from Davenport, Iowa. The officers also discovered Faler had a thumbdrive with pornographic images of children, including five different minor boys, some of them engaging in sexual activity with Faler at a trailer park in Davenport.

In July, Faler plead guilty to various charges. Because Faler has multiple prior convictions for sexual abuse of children, the mandatory federal sentence for each charge of production of child pornography is life in prison.
