Iowa opened the door late for Iowa State and the fourth ranked Cyclones walked through it. Leading 82-74 in the waning moments the Hawkeyes committed a flurry of mistakes down the stretch and the Cyclones rallied fror an 83-82 win.

Monte Morris hit the game winning jumper with 10 seconds remaining as the Cyclones rallied from 20 points down to improve to 8-0.

“Man what a game and what an atmosphere”, said Iowa State coach Steve Prohm. I’m really proud of our guys and in the second half we did some special things.”

For the second straight time at Hilton Coliseum the Hawkeyes let a sure victory slip away.

“I was very disappointed in how we played down the stretch”, said Iowa coach Fran McCaffery. “I thought we made enough plays in the second half to win the game we just couldn’t get home.”

Morris and Jameel McKay led Iowa State with 20 points each. Jarod Uthoff led Iowa with 32 points, including 30 in the first half.
