Authorities in central Iowa are looking for a 60-year-old man with a criminal past who knew two people who were recently shot in Des Moines.

A 36-year-old man was shot to death in the hallway of an apartment building, but the 37-year-old woman who was shot survived.

Des Moines police have issued a “material witness warrant” for Alf Freddie Clark, who was released from a federal prison in the summer of 2010.

He lives in the apartment complex where the shootings happened and knows the victims. Clark has a variety of arrests and convictions on his record and, according to a bio posted on the internet, Clark has written about his criminal past in a memoir titled “Satan’s Mask.”

Clark has a family connection to a high-profile crime in Des Moines. His nephew, who has an almost identical name (Alf Freddy Clark), was convicted of armed robbery and another relative was convicted of murdering two people at the Drake Diner in November of 1992.
