ighsau-logo-300Eighth ranked Pella survived a lengthy drought in the fourth quarter to hold off second ranked Lewis Central 47-41 in a class 4A quarterfinal round game.

Leading 41-30 early in the fourth quarter the Lady Dutch went into a delay game and managed only one field goal the remainder of the game.

“I felt like we were stuck on 41 forever”, said Pella coach Jerod Garland. ” We were not in a solid delay but we just did not want to force anything. We did not get a lot out of it so yes, you do start to question the decision.”

Katie Vander Molen and Chloe Van Vliet both had nine points to lead a balanced Pella effort.

It was a struggle all game on offense for the Titans who made only five of 20 shots in the opening half and trailed 26-15 at the break. They pulled to within 41-37 in the fourth quarter but misfired on four opportunities to get even closer.

“Anytime you are in that position if even one of those four baskets fall it could be a different outcome”, said Lewis Central coach Derek Archer. “Unfortunately none of them did and that is the way it goes.”

Maegen Holt led Lewis Central with 21 points.
