Police car lightsThe suspect who was arrested after leading police on a high speed chase in central Iowa has been identified. The chase started Sunday around noon near Prairie City, when police spotted a vehicle connected to a drug investigation. The suspect vehicle reached speeds of 145 miles an hour.

The chase ended when the vehicle slammed into a tree stump in the back yard of a home in Lambs Grove in Jasper County. The suspect, 35-year-old Derek Mullennax of Prairie City, allegedly shot at police during the chase. He’s facing a long list of charges, including attempted murder.

A passenger in the vehicle, 25-year-old Jessica Cubbage of Prairie City, is also facing drug-related charges. An Iowa State Patrol vehicle caught fire after going through a fence at the end of the chase in Lambs Grove, but the trooper got out safety.
