Senator Chuck Grassley.

Senator Chuck Grassley has a message to the protesters who’ve been urging him to “do your job” and convene a senate committee hearing for President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee: “I’m on the job, doing what needs to be done.

“I get to the office at 6:15 in the morning. I leave at about 7 or 7:15 at night. I’m busy all the time that I’m on capitol hill. There’s 2000 senators in the history of our country and I broke the record about five months ago…of not missing a vote in 22 years.”

Grassley spoke with employees of St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll this morning, as a handful of protesters gathered on a nearby street corner. Grassley said the protesters have a right to freely express their opinions, but Grassley said he’d just be “spinning his wheels” if he held a hearing on Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland and the hearing would divert time from issues that could be resolved in a “bipartisan way.”
