Iowa defensive line coach Reese Morgan says defensive end Drew Ott is considered a graduate and is not taking part in spring drills.

The Nebraska native is seeking an additional year of eligibility after suffering a season ending knee injury midway through the 2015 campaign.

“I feel bad for him because it has been denied several times and he has an appeal in again”, said Morgan. “The process just seems to be extremely frustrating because nobody from the NCAA has talked to anybody in this building about it or him. That seems to be unusual.”

Morgan says Ott wants to know if he should hire an agent with the NFL Draft approaching. He received special permission to attend the combine but can’t have anything to do with spring drills until he is granted the extra year.

“Right now he is treated as a graduate and works out with coach Doyle. He has not been granted that year so he can’t participate with us.”
