The Iowa Republican Party’s chairman says it’s time for the GOP to rally around Donald Trump — and Jeff Kaufmann is taking issue with former Florida Governor Jeb Bush for announcing he will not to vote for Trump.
“The reason he has the ability to say: ‘I’m going to tell you who I’m not going to endorse,’ and cameras show up is because his family has served this country well. His father’s a war hero, but his family is who they are because Republicans rallied around them not once, not twice, but three times,” Kaufmann says.
Kaufmann says Bush should support the candidate who won the most votes — and that’s Donald Trump. Bush said during an interview on MSNBC on Monday that voters will feel “betrayed” by Trump if he’s elected and Bush said he, personally, will be “worried” if Trump wins in November.
“It was sad. I just sat there and shook my head and said: ‘Shame on you,'” Kaufmann says, “because we would have been advocating for you had you won.”
Kaufmann also is blasting 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney for saying he won’t vote for Trump either.
“Don’t even get me started about the arms I had to twist to get people to vote for Mitt Romney — and then he turns around and does what he does?” Kaufmann says. “i’m sorry, but that’s not cool as my teenagers would say.”
Kaufmann spoke this morning at the Westside Conservative Club in Urbandale.
