GavelThree Iowans who are in prison on drug charges are seeing their sentences cut short in a move by the nation’s chief executive.

President Barack Obama commuted the prison sentences on Wednesday of 214 inmates, including: David Millard of Grimes, Michael Sandmeyer of Rockford and Martin Singh of Marshalltown.

Millard and Singh were serving life sentences while Sandmeyer was doing 20 years. All were convicted of distributing methamphetamine, among other charges. Their sentences will be commuted to expire December 1st.

A White House statement said everyone on the list was sent to prison under antiquated, overly-harsh sentencing laws.
