Crime Scene TapeAutopsy results show a central Iowa mother and child died from drug overdoses.

Two-year-old Mason Wyckoff was found dead on July 22nd in a Grimes home. His mother 33-year-old Stephanie Erickson, was found unresponsive and taken to a Des Moines hospital in serious condition. She died six days later.

The Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office results conclude that Mason’s death was caused by acute Oxycodone toxicity and his death was ruled a homicide. The autopsy of Stephanie Erickson’s body determined her cause of death was also acute Oxycodone toxicity. Her death was ruled a suicide.

A new release from the Polk County Sheriff’s office says detectives and the DCI are in the process of completing their investigation into the deaths and will release more information once the investigation is done.
