Police-lightsA Des Moines man was killed and a woman injured this weekend when their car was hit by another car that was fleeing police.

A police officer tried to stop a car without license plates shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday on Des Moines’ north side. The car pulled into a grocery store parking lot but then sped off. A short time later, the car was traveling at high speeds, when according to police, it crossed lanes on a roadway and struck an oncoming car.

The driver of that car, 41-year-old Jason Hunt, was killed and his passenger, 40-year-old Angela Denning, was injured. Police said the pursuit lasted around one minute. The driver of the car involved in the chase, 34-year-old Darnell Browder, and a passenger, 18-year-old Davion Barber — both of Des Moines — were injured.

Police says Browder, a convicted felon, had a firearm in the vehicle. For now, no charges have been filed in the crash, which remains under investigation.
