Police car lightsThe body of a missing person has been found in a rural area of north-central Iowa.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office received a report of the missing person at mid-afternoon Tuesday. The search began in Webster and Hamilton counties. At about 2:00 Wednesday morning, the vehicle the subject was last known to be driving was located in a wildlife area north of Stratford.

Following an extensive search by law enforcement and volunteers, the subject was found dead in a remote area Wednesday afternoon. The name of the individual is being withheld pending notification of family members.

The body has been taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny for an autopsy.
