AmbulanceSeveral students from the Clarke Community School District are still hospitalized after a school bus accident Wednesday afternoon.

According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, the bus was traveling north when the driver, 72-year-old Darwin Griffith of Osceola lost control on a curve. The school bus ran off the roadway to the right and entered the east ditch. The bus struck a bridge railing, overturned and then came to rest in a creek.

The bus was carrying seven children at the time of the accident. Some of the children were taken to the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, and others were taken to Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines. There was also heavy rainfall at the time of the accident, which could have been a contributing factor. The State Patrol is continuing to investigate.
