iowa-dnr-logoA large fish kill is under investigation in northeast Iowa. Department of Natural Resources staff are still counting the dead fish in Whitewater Creek.

A news release states, on Sunday and Monday, dead fish were found in Dubuque County from southwest of Peosta downstream to the North Fork of the Maquoketa River in Jones County, a distance of more than 20 miles.

Manure runoff was found along several miles of the waterway, but the DNR reports the source of the fish kill is still unknown with “potentially multiple sources of the pollutant.”
