Police car lightsNo word yet on whether there was an intended target, but a 29-year-old Dubuque man faces an attempted murder charge for a shooting that happened 10 days ago.

Dubuque police responded to a report of a shooting at about one o’clock in the morning on Sunday, September 11. Police found a 22-year-old Dubuque man in the area with a handgun. He was charged with reckless use of a firearm. Officers found blood and another gun at the scene, but no shooting victim.

Early this morning Charles Layfield turned himself into police. He’s been charged with attempted murder, going armed with intent and intimidation with a dangerous weapon. Layfield is in the Dubuque County Jail on a $760,000 bond.

Dubuque police released a written statement this afternoon, saying “additional charges are possible” in this case.
