Fire-truck

UPDATE:

Fremont County authorities have released the name of a man who drowned in a truck that overturned in a farm pond.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office says the body recovered from the pond was that of 55-year-old James Leroy Vrbsky of Sidney.

Previous story:

A body was recovered from a pickup truck submerged in a farm pond in southwest Iowa’s Fremont County late last night.

Dive team members were called to an address north of Anderson shortly after 10 p.m. after a report that a vehicle was found upside down in the pond, and a Sidney firefighter’s search for the driver was unsuccessful. Three divers entering the water found the vehicle’s windows open, but were unable to find the body.

Incident Commander Kenny Hamman of the Midwest Regional Dive Team says the body of the driver — a man — was recovered after a wrecker raised the vehicle out of the water. It’s unknown how the vehicle entered the pond, but Hamman estimates the pickup was in the water for at least day.

The driver’s name has not been released. The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, and is expected to release more information later today.
