Corrections-logoPrisoners at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison will be confined to their cells through at least this weekend. That’s due to “an incident involving two offenders in the dining hall.”

Iowa State Pen spokesperson Rebecca Bowker refused to provide more details, but did confirm a responding officer received only a minor injury.

“There were no serious injuries to staff,” Bowker said. Because of the incident on Tuesday, the Iowa State Pen has been placed on restricted movement.

“Basically, for visitors, that means they won’t be visiting this weekend and the offenders will be confined to their cells,” Bowker said. According to a news release from the Iowa Department of Corrections, the officer was treated for a minor injury at Fort Madison Community Hospital.

One of the priosoners in the incident was also transported to the hospital with “non-life threatening injuries.”
