Police-lights-300x192One person was killed, four hurt, in an accident on Highway 25 in southwest Iowa’s Adair County near Orient about 9:30 last night.

The Iowa State Patrol says a car driven by 30-year-old Derek Eugene Ueligger, of Creston, was traveling south in the northbound lane of the highway, when it collided head-on with a northbound 2012 Chevy Impala driven by 82-year-old Betty Jean Schultz, of Greenfield.

A passenger in one of the vehicles, 88-year-old Dawn Christensen, of Adair, died at the hospital in Creston from injuries she suffered in the crash. Ueligger and Schultz were transported by ambulance to the hospitals in Creston and Greenfield, respectively.

A second passenger in one of the vehicles, 85-year-old Norma Caltrider, of Adair, was flown to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, while a third passenger, 89-year-old Marilyn Ehrsam, of Greenfield, was transported to the hospital in Greenfield. It wasn’t clear if any of the victims were wearing their seat belts. The accident remained under investigation.
