Sheriff-patrolAuthorities in western Iowa are releasing new details about the death of an infant at a family gathering over the Thanksgiving holiday.

A family from Nebraska and other relatives from across the country had gathered in a rented condo at the Clover Ridge Resort at Lake Panorama, when their celebration turned to despair. According to the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office on November 23rd, a 21-month-old girl was left unattended for a period of time in a bathtub with running water, along with her four-year-old sibling.

The younger child, Sawyer Madsen, of Lincoln, Nebraska, was found floating in a tub. The older sibling was not injured. The infant was flown by helicopter to Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines, where she died Thanksgiving Day. The girl’s parents were identified as Elena and Joshua Madsen, of Lincoln.

An autopsy was performed on the child. The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation continue to investigate the circumstances of the death.
