Governor Tom Vilsack and former Governor Robert Ray today called on Iowans to pester the Presidential candidates about health care policy. Ray, a republican who co-chairs the National Coalition on Health Care, says the nation’s health care system is “deeply flawed” because too many Americans do not have insurance. Ray says the candidates haven’t thoroughly addressed the problem.Democrat Governor Tom Vilsack says 44 million Americans do not have insurance — and one-million people join their ranks every year.Iowa Department of Public Health Director Dr. Stephen Gleason was part of the team which crafted the 1993 Clinton Health Care plan which was rejected by Congress. Gleason, Ray and Vilsack made their comments this afternoon at a news conference in a Des Moines hospital.
