Prison officials call for sentencing guidelines

State prison officials say sensible sentencing guidelinesare needed to slow the growth of inmates in the state’s prisons. Jean Kuehl, with the Iowa Corrections Association, says nearly 400 new prisonworkers are needed…and says a new prison computer system is needed to trackinmates and parolees…work currently done by hand. Kuehl says there are tens of thousands of prisoners statewide, eitherin halfway houses or in cell blocks.
