MOURNING DOVE HUNTING MEASURE FAILS

February 26, 1999 By admin

THE MOURNING DOVE HUNTING BILL IS DEAD — AT LEAST FOR THIS YEAR ACCORDING TO HOUSE REPUBLICAN LEADER BRENT SIEGRIST. HE SAYS THERE ARE ONLY 48 VOTES IN FAVOR OF THE MEASURE TO ALLOW MOURNING DOVE HUNTING IN IOWA. SIEGRIST USED HIS POWER TO PLACE THE BILL AT A LEGISLATIVE DEAD END. SIEGRIST SAYS THERE’S NO BENEFIT IN BRINGING THE BILL UP FOR A VOTE AND HAVING IT FAIL. SIEGRIST ADMITS MANY LEGISLATORS DON’T WANT TO BE FORCED TO CHOOSE SIDES WITH DOVE HUNTERS OR DOVE LOVERS. SIEGRIST SAYS HE WOULD VOTE “YES” IN FAVOR OF A MOURNING DOVE HUNTING SEASON.
