Panel recommends more money for schools

March 2, 1999 By admin

A few tweaks and a little more state investment in schools are the recommendations of a panel that’s been reviewing the formula which determines how state aid to schools is distributed. Representative Betty Grundberg, a republican from West Des Moines, says they wanted to find away to address the inequities between rich and poor districts. Senator Don Redfern, a republican from Cedar Falls, says the committee recommends spending about 40-million more state dollars on schools, replacing local property tax dollars. The committee also recommends more money for schools which cover alot of area and have huge transportation costs as they bus students to school.
