Sioux City School Board may cut over 100 positions

March 2, 1999 By admin

The Sioux City School Board is proposing the elimination of 102 positions to save money. The executive director of the Sioux City Education Association, Bruce Lear, says the cuts will hurt the district’s ability to educate children. Voters in Sioux City have passed a one cent sales tax to fix and build new classrooms, but that money can’t be used for staff. Lear says thedistrict could have the best buildings in the state and one of the worst school systems. Lear says he hasn’t heard of a single administrativeposition being cut. The final decision on how many positions will actually be cut should come in April.
