Pat Buchanan opens Iowa campaign

March 4, 1999 By admin

Television commentator Pat Buchanan is now a Republican presidential candidate for the third time and Wednesday opened his Iowa campaign bysaying Clinton trade policies are hurting farmers. Buchanan says falling international sales of U.S. goods and commodities show the U.S. Trade Representative isn’t doing the job. In 1992 and again in 1996, Buchanan focused on trade issues during his campaigns for the presidency. Buchananvows to bring down trade barriers and even re-consider the trade embargo against Iraq. Buchanan finished second, behind Bob Dole, in Iowa’s 1996 caucuses. He did not run in Iowa in 1992.
