Governor Tom Vilsack has pledged to spend more state money on child care. Vilsack wants legislators to spend five-and-a-half million dollars to provide child care to all the welfare moms and dads who’re moving into the workforce. Vilsack also promised to ask for six-million dollars in federal money to “streamline” the child care system in Iowa. In addition, Vilsack will appoint a task force to examine Iowa’s child careand early education system and make recommendations which he can take to the legislature next year. Vilsack spoke at the Iowa early childhood care and education conference in Des Moines.
