The class 2A quarterfinals opened at the girls state tournament with an upset. 17th-ranked Saint Ansgar outscored Bondurant-Farrar 17-3 in the third quarter to stun to the top-ranked Lady Jays 45-31. The Saints inside game was too strong as they out-rebounded Bondurant-Farrar 46 to 27. Kim Shoars led a balanced attack for the saints with 13-points. The loss for Bondurant-Farrar was their first of the season. Fourth-ranked Denver scored the game’s final six points to avoid an upset bid by unranked Emmetsburg 45-39. For Denver and coach Steve Moon it snapped a string of three straight tournament appearances with a first round loss. 16th ranked Audubon used a 12-1 second half run to down Bellevue 52-41. Jenny Randeris led the Wheelers in scoring with 17-points includingseven-of-ten from the free throw line.
